Simon Masson - France

Simon is a French architect and together with Timothée Chateau, founded BRA to propose a contrasting path. They see the architect as a form of resistance not through words, but through what is built. In response to environmental pressures, normative constraints, and cultural impoverishment, they refuse to fall into the temptation of the vernacular, to limit ourselves to flattering regionalism, or to retreat into the comfort of “do-it-yourself” practices. They work toward an architecture that is demanding, rooted, and sensitive to those that questions and transforms. They test, draw, and radically simplify. For them, each project is a prototype, an interpretation, and a unique response to a contextual, programmatic, and emotional equation. They embrace the use of ordinary materials, but they work them with precision to reveal their potential. They campaign for architecture that moves, that tells a story, that respects and, above all, that challenges conventions.Models, diagrams and images are their tools for communicating and defending our ideas. Their decisions are rational, but their process remains intuitive. Accuracy, emotion, and memory guide them in shaping architecture that is useful, restrained, yet always open to imagination.
