As a manifesto of participatory management of the area, a garden has been created on a public abandoned site in the south of Marghera (Venice) to illustrate the various types and applications of phytoremediation technology.
These are the goals that led to planting The Phytoremediation Garden, a space open to everyone, where the names and specific usefulness of each of the plants are presented on explanatory panels.
The project proposes using this technology in south Marghera to nurture the recovery of polluted soils, which are subject to increasingly strong environmental pressures and the consequence of decades of industrial activity.
The desire to use the garden to involve residents in a shared experience of developing environmental awareness has led the designers to establish a close relationship with the students of the Marghera’s Filippo Grimani Comprehensive School with an educational project related to environmental education, sustainable repair, and phytoremediation.
