The Orbit is a 42,000 sqm, regeneration project, where via its Iconic new facade design, transformed an existing structure into a contemporary urban landmark, while revitalizing the area by making a positive overall contribution. The façade, consists an emblematic design embedding environmental-responsible properties into its architecture, making the building one of the few buildings, acquiring LEED Platinum in Greece and the 1st building in Greece to gain LEED v4 for Core & Shell Platinum.
The façade, connects and unifies all elements via the horizontal white striations made -out of white pollution-resistant aluminium-composite composite panels. The façade is designed specifically for this area taking into consideration the local conditions. These white ribbons run-along the building, creating an Iconic silhouette, while they provide solar shading, protecting the interiors from the local hot climate. The facade also offers extensive horizontal and vertical plantation areas, easing the lack of green areas of the neighbourhood, due to high urban density. Combining the façade plantation, the vertical gardens, the sky and roof gardens, we reach the 90% of the plot area to be green.
The façade’s aluminium fins, consist an advanced integrated multifunctional system combining various subsystems. A linear custom-made planter running along the building, the irrigation system, the drainage and sewage network of the building, the maintenance deck with lifeline and the facade lighting are some of the elements embedded into the facade profile.
Thus, through its smart and emblematic façade design, The Orbit has become an inspiring landmark, that provides exciting views and experiences, while setting in “Orbit” of regeneration all areas around it.
