Saint Germain housing units, 2020 – Llorenç Batlle | Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France
Completed in 2020, the eight housing units are situated along the long and winding rue du Fer à Cheval, just opposite the Lycée International.
The positioning of the units shifts and rotates between each one, which reinforces the curved design of the land and adapts to the natural topography of the site.
The fan-shaped plot brings variations that enhance the perception of the façades and the intimacy of each entity.
On the ground floor are the common living rooms, kitchen, and open patio that revolves around a technical core offering spatial fluidity. The materiality of the brick volumes blends in effortlessly with the neighboring buildings.
Careful work on the detail of the treatments of the exterior wooden joinery confers an evident domestic quality.
