Refugium is a beachfront apartment located on Costa da Caparica, near Lisbon. The renovation was inspired by the simplicity of the original fishermen’s houses, to guarantee a serene and comfortable space. Here we go back to essential. More than aesthetic concerns, the careful choice of the entire process was the focus.
The original project was kept, and demolition was practically non-existent, reusing as many existing elements as possible. Microlime natural coating ensures the homogenization of the entire space. The sustainable principles of the intervention were also extended to the decoration by providing a close collaboration with local craftsmen and other nationally produced pieces.
Refugium is a project that looks outwards, that introduces the coastal environment in which it is inserted, although it maintains an inner world of intimacy. The balance between the new and the existing ends up ensuring a more honest and genuine result.
