The recording studios of the Maison de Radio France embody the ability of interior spaces to unfold new universes. For Radio France, the architects designed multiple spaces known as ‘creation studios’. Their working studios are in the form of recording rooms, sound recording booths, and reverberation and soundproof chambers. The latter focuses on specific types of recurring sounds typical of radio fiction: the sound of footsteps on stairs, of opening and closing doors, and other household noises. The design team wanted to reflect the unique radio experience through the studios’ architecture. Each studio deploys a specific atmosphere playing with shapes, materials, acoustics, and touch. The team developed the studios according to one main principle: gather all the specific functions in a unique device: a cabinet of curiosities, an endless staircase, a scale model of a house, and a metal screen that hosts all the technical and acoustic equipment.
