It has a strategic geopolitical position in the south-eastern Mediterranean Sea connecting three continents and many different cultures. The architects’ intervention targets the harbor outside the city walls.
At first, the architects trail the historical coastline, creating an elevated space, below which a parking lot is accommodated, concealing the image of the vehicles in the site. Simultaneously, this also acts as a tool to distance the buildings from the city wall.
Following, Psigio (an important landmark) is converted into a museum, in which elements of Neorio are being incorporated. Furthermore, the marine terminals are updated to accommodate private and public passenger ships including a hotel and local market.
Above the terminal zone, the team has set up a path to gaze at both the port and the city walls. This way the visitors are motivated to explore the city outside the walls.
