Project Plurien is a French Brittany construction intended for a couple who wish to live there part of the year and rent it as a cottage during their absence. The hilly terrain consisted of two distinct buildings: a mill and an 18th-century house. The objective of the project was to create an extension between the two buildings to form a large residence. With a focus on accessibility and respect of the environment, we reorganized the site’s topography by integrating into the underground parts.
Here, the architectural intervention serves as a contemporary and discreet link between these two entities. The extension becomes a living room open on both sides to the outdoors, with a sloping roof allowing alignments between the two buildings. The granite and pink sandstone rubble from the existing parts are highlighted. Minerals dominate here, and the concrete of the project embraces a certain simplicity.
The materiality of the concrete contrasts with the porous and ancient texture of the existing. The duality between materials and construction imprints allows for a sensitive interpretation. This interplay of eras and materials establishes a visual and sensory game that enables visitors to appreciate the poetry of the place and intensify the outdoor views of nature.
