Initiated by the local Yankin community, the project aims to convert a 2.5-hectare wasteland into a recreational public area. The objective is to establish a self-sufficient, diverse public garden comprising a Chin Lone court (traditional ball game), a Zayat (community meeting place), an urban community farm, and a multi-purpose sports field suitable for cultural and community events.
The project’s governance, operations and programming are all geared towards offering maximum opportunities for community engagement. The design is inspired by Myanmar’s traditional bamboo framework construction technique, a national intangible heritage that is gradually giving way to steel structures.
The project showcases the use of bamboo in the construction industry as an ecological material with an extremely low carbon footprint. Plot-ABC represents an experiment in urban prefiguration. The architecture of the bamboo structures used in this project has the potential to facilitate the development of additional programs and spaces.
