Near the Ermenonville state forest, this rehabilitation-extension project reflects the desire for a peaceful dwelling in the heart of nature. The creation of an extension housing the living area of the house provides views of the surrounding forest. With a simple form and a Japanese-inspired roof, the extension plays with the lightness of its thin roof and foundations to seamlessly integrate into the vegetal environment.
The structure relies on exposed wooden frames supported by pillars. The existing house from the sixties is entirely renovated and redesigned. The library staircase is conceived as a structuring element for the spaces, which interact with each other in the form of an open plan, all benefiting from views of the outdoors.
The two entities, the existing part, and the extension, with similar volumes, differentiate themselves through the choice of materials, especially for the joineries and roofs. The wood used in its natural hue recalls the nearby environment and craftsmanship. The extension, with its metallic presence, preserves transparencies and stands out with its finesse and contemporary style.
