Renovation of a Jean Prouvé building
A revival of an architectural gem designed in the 1970s by architects Jean-Claude Jallat and Michel Proux, along with designer-engineer Jean Prouvé.
Set on the Quai de Grenelle, at the center of the 1960s–1970s Front de Seine urban development project, the Orion building stands as a testament to a pioneering and innovative era. Neither a traditional renovation, restoration, nor rehabilitation, our intervention seeks to elevate the building’s intrinsic brilliance and unique character while aligning it with the expectations of contemporary and future occupants. Our goal: to restore its original clarity and coherence.
Following an in-depth heritage audit and a comprehensive inventory of its notable elements, our team identified the building’s architectural DNA and carefully cataloged the features to preserve, modify, or enhance.
At the ground-floor level, façades have been reworked to return to their original function, providing openness, transparency, and a sense of levitation for the upper floors. Across the upper levels, the project focuses on optimizing the plan’s rationality and functionality, liberating the floor, ceiling, and walls, a transformation made possible by the Jean Prouvé metal ribbon. Coupled with thermal reinforcement, this ribbon has been restored to its original appearance, form, and purpose.
