“New BEIC” is a project for an international competition. It may seem immediate or obvious is instead loaded with rich symbolic meaning. Juxtaposing the design volume with the image of a book, or several books on top of each other, is a choice that encapsulates a strong social value that every architectural project must have.
The book is a symbol of science and wisdom, a generator of culture and emancipation; concepts consistent with the meaning we attach to the design of the new library. The image of books arranged one on top of the other, in an orderly manner, can be formally transformed into a linear building.
Working on the manipulation and rotation of books made it clear how the volume is modern, dynamic, impactful, and immediately relatable to the main function it houses: reading. A pile of books in an opaque neighborhood, an iconic, representative and technologically innovative building capable of characterizing a new place.
