In a gradually neglected rural area in the east of France, in Dienville, the town’s theater and village hall has been abandoned. The architects spent five days on site in residence with La Talvera Paysage in order to redefine the future of this place together with the elected officials and the town’s inhabitants.
The principle of residence is the way to return to the very essence of programming through consultation and use definition. Public procurement for the creation or renovation of cultural buildings in France is inaccessible to young studios. Through this residency, the architects assert the growing interest of young architects in the renovation of cultural heritage.
The project develops a contemporary and plural program by, on the one hand, rehabilitating the existing theater from an energy and acoustic point of view. On the other hand, by creating an extension with multi-purpose association rooms to recreate the intergenerational social link.
