Anatolia, with its fertile soil, has been home to many civilizations for thousands of years, and at its heart lies Kayseri. This city nurtured a genius: Mimar Sinan, the chief architect of the Ottoman Empire. This project is designed with a sense of weight, curiosity, and excitement, as it is a museum dedicated to Sinan and his legacy in his own city.
The museum is situated within the National Garden, strategically located along significant axes that connect both the garden and the city. It is integrated into a new structural axis that aligns with the existing cultural and architectural heritage developed over millennia.
Like Sinan’s own design philosophy, the Mimar Sinan Museum is inviting to all. It welcomes museum visitors, architecture enthusiasts, and users of the National Garden alike. Visitors may come to explore, stop to experience, or simply pass through, gaining insights into the museum’s content even in brief moments of transition. Sinan understood that his structures, teachings, mathematics, and philosophy extended beyond mere architectural elements, and the museum aims to reflect this understanding.
Far from being a mere imitation of the past, the Mimar Sinan Museum seeks to present Sinan’s work in its entirety, showcasing its relationship with the city, its scale in relation to people, and its entrance, volume, rhythm, and construction techniques. The museum aims to create a spacious environment that serves its purpose effectively.
It strives to harness the potential of contemporary design while staying true to the time that it was built. The goal is to speak not only of architecture but also of engineering, interpreting Mimar Sinan’s legacy beyond just domes and arches and accurately conveying his philosophical outlook.
