Le Guérandais is a pilot project to revitalize post-war housing. The city of Saint-Nazaire was almost entirely rebuilt after World War II due to Allied bombings. The community purchased a vacant building, the former “Le Guérandais” hotel, to conduct the first exemplary and replicable rehabilitation operation. The architects propose an attractive and distinctive housing offer, by the renovation of the building and the addition of three new apartments in a wooden superelevation:
Reference to the concept of a house with the creation of duplexes and “roof houses”
Generous outdoor extensions for all residences
Abundant natural light, views of rooftops, and the horizon
Ambitious energy and acoustic renovations
With the treatment of façades through patterns and color, the project breaks the chromatic monotony of the neighborhood, often criticized by the residents of Saint-Nazaire or visitors.
