The project is located in the countryside, a natural site in the Ardèche mountains. The initial program described two separated buildings, one for a round pen and another for a horse walker. In order to minimize the visual impact of the constructions on the natural landscape, the design brings together these two components within a single envelope.
The timber structure and the vertical cladding generate a gentle and elegant rhythm, which like a screen filters the natural light while letting in the surrounding nature. A large oculus in the centre of the roof magnifies the circular shape of the building by creating a window open to the sky. The reduced palette of materials meets the agricultural characteristics of the project, which uses them pragmatically according to their exposure: the concrete in contact with horses, the local Douglas wood for the structure and cladding and copper for the roof.
