In Xai Xai, Mozambique, a local association plans to build a preschool for marginalized children. This shelter and community center for vulnerable groups will also serve as a base for community and cultural activities. The building has two wings that adapt to the topography and overlook the scenic landscapes, encouraging children to connect with nature and stimulate their imaginations.
Designed with compressed earth blocks, the project makes use of readily available local resources. A series of perforated brick walls and louvers create a temperate, naturally ventilated space. The light-filled atmosphere is inviting to contemplation and awakens the senses.
The structure of the roofs is designed to maximize rainwater collection, reinforcing the project’s self-sufficiency in this rural area. This holistic proposal aims to create a long-lasting and compassionate educational environment that blends the school seamlessly into its surroundings.
