Ensemble Mereville, 2019 – Arnaud Depeyre | Mereville, Essonne, France
The project consists of the construction of two ground-floor commercial spaces and three first-floor social living spaces. The building is situated in the center of a small town in the French countryside.
The project began by analyzing the surrounding rural context, the geometric forms drawn by the facade, and the existing materials. This formal vocabulary offered a constructive lexicon by which to design the building.
This settlement was historically identified as a pink village. House facade coatings were made from broken bricks mixed with plaster.
The building is built in prefabricated concrete panels tinted pink. The appearance of the pink-tinted materiality makes the building integration into the rural environment possible.
