With the design of the house in Olsza in Krakow, the architects challenge the polish single family residential convention, that single-family housing based on technologies in wooden construction are suited exclusively for suburban areas or for summer houses.
The project’s goal was not only to focus on ecological and energy-saving solutions, but also to create an ambitious proto-type which would emphasize the very best of modern living, and positively re-narrativize societies held view of sustainable architecture. Timber housing is not limited to traditional gable roofs and traditional windows, but it can utilize spatially optimized flat roofs and large corner glazing creating a building fit for the 21st century.
