The township aims to create a childhood center, including school, day-care and after-school in the same area. Thus, the project is established in extension of an existing recreation centre. A new rectilinear building proposes a new facade, and a new organization. The ground plan maintains a right-of-way available in the North (where a playground is planned).
A plain envelope fits in the existing ocher hues, with reinterpreting: a roof that turns on the walls. The plain envelope of the cladding and roofing building is a red fiber cement slate. Like a protective skin of scales project, this solid cladding also contrasts with the interior wood cladding.
The large frame structure keeps the volume free and generous. A covered courtyard serves as a transition between the two types of programs, a buffer space where children of different ages meets.
This architecture actually has two objectives: pedagogical, so that children are involved in raising awareness of environmental issues, and environmental as dynamic building simulation and carbon analysis have made choices of location and materials.
