Casa no Meco is a single-family house located on the outskirts of Aldeia do Meco, surrounded by large buildings from the 80s. This uncharacteristic surrounding guided the new project.
The owner’s wishes were clear: a simple gabled building to replace the original one where he grew up, strategically placed to avoid direct exposure to the neighbors. In the street facade, small openings were made to ensure the privacy of the house. Inside, the house gradually opens up to its garden.
It is between the street and the new building that a “stone line” is developed to unify the whole complex, connecting the parking area to a vertical technical volume, in a clear allusion to the original oven house. It is through a contemporary approach of subtraction that the surroundings are contoured and a few moments of tension inside the house are explored, through the manipulation of the different ceiling heights.
