From Taquete to Luau
TAQUETE: abrupt geometry, everything that is attached to the perimeter of the house is arranged based on straight and clean lines, leaving well-marked edges and purely geometric encounters.
LUAU: soft, organic, natural geometry… the lines adapt as if from
routes were discussed.
It was decided to maintain those unique elements of the home, to maintain its essence. The communication between past and present is manifested in the home through various nods to its origin: the visible structure, enclosure elements or even finishes.
The project was interpreted as a geometric experiment, of composition and relationship between pieces and limits. After a first assessment of the current state, the focus of attention was focused on the harshness of the encounters between the different walls.
A triangular geometry of the floor plan forced angular meetings, peaks and vertices that only provided the space with tension instead of naturally resolving the union of two homes into one. For this reason, “the curve” is taken as the guiding thread of the project. Encounters capable of relaxing the environment, visual relationships between the pieces and lines of cuts between materials that position each piece in its place.
Each piece works as an independent capsule, but perfectly related to its environment. For this reason, each of the pieces are set back without touching the façade, the objective is to maintain the geometric hardness of the façade independent of the interior pieces. This strategy also allows the light from each window to be added, achieving spaces that are more naturally illuminated and visually connected, allowing for a much greater perception of the space. The layout of the wooden floor is maintained throughout the house, but as the geometry of each room changes, the flooring takes on a totally different appearance. A simple strategy that provides uniqueness to each space in the home.
