The Anankè project, in the ZAC (Urban Development Zone) of the Quartier de l’Hours in Béziers, marks a turning point in urban design. This mixed-use, adaptable building combines architectural innovation, environmental sustainability, and social flexibility. Designed to adapt to future transformations, it stands as a strong urban marker and an agile response to the challenges of our contemporary lifestyles.
An architecture designed for change
Inspired by the need for adaptability and modularity, Anankè is designed for multiple, flexible, and undetermined uses. Three main principles structure its 2,800 m²:
Functional reversibility: A post-and-beam structure, cross-laminated timber (CLT) floors, and timber-frame facades enable quick modifications between housing, offices, or activity spaces.
Environmental sustainability: Simple and mixed materials (low-carbon concrete, timber framing) reduce the ecological impact and align with a circular economy approach.
Spatial flexibility: The spaces, designed to evolve, prioritize natural light, ventilation, and social interactions.
A construction serving its occupants
The architectural choices reflect a balance between aesthetics and functionality:Controlled thickness: A built width of 13 meters promotes dual exposure and optimal lighting.
Outdoor circulation: Walkways and open-air staircases encourage community interactions while reducing costs.
Multifunctional base: The ground floor, with a double height (5 meters), hosts shops, services, and shared spaces, enhancing the local dynamic.
Sustainable envelope: Modular facades and centralized technical systems ensure cost-effective adaptation to future uses.
Collective spaces and ecological impact
Anankè places conviviality and the environment at the heart of its design:
Living roofs and balconies: Micro-gardens, shared terraces, and walkways provide relaxation and interaction.
Bioclimatic approach: Vegetated facades, natural ventilation, and the reduction of the heat island effect create a pleasant living environment.
Energy efficiency: Ecological materials and optimized resource management demonstrate a sustainable approach.
A collaborative and inclusive process
Anankè was conceived through a participatory process involving architects, project owners, and design offices. The use of virtual simulations allowed for quick adjustments to hypotheses, ensuring effective decision-making.
A vision for the future
Evolving, ecological, and inclusive, Anankè offers a new way of thinking about the city. By combining functional diversity, well-being, and respect for the environment, it presents a model of sustainable construction adapted to the challenges of tomorrow.
With Anankè, Béziers asserts itself as a pioneer in reinventing the relationship between architecture and society.
